The ACD A4-DUE


Note: This project is a 3D printable Arduino Due case which was just designed for fun and as a hobby. It is inspired by and kind of rips off the awesome DAN A4-SFX computer case (it's to smallest gaming tower in the world :) forum link where you can find out more. Update: Official Website: dan-cases.com ). For this reason, it's quality is in no way comparable to the original, which is, because it's an actual product that is going to get released soon, of course way more advanced and detailed. Furthermore, my parody lacks many features from the original :D (from venting holes over GPU support to the love and time Dondan (the creator of the original DAN A4-SFX / DAN Cases) put into it).

Also I forgot the TINY fact that he managed to sqeeze a high-end gaming PC inside of 7 litres....... :D

 

TLDR: THIS IS A KIND OF DERP PARODY OF THE AWESOME ACTUAL DAN A4-SFX COMPUTER CASE. PLEASE DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!


Introduction

Hello guys,

 

this is my "parody" of the A4 :D

I am a huge fan of the original product and was not able to wait until it's released, so I already build myself a mini case for an Arduino microcontroller. It's WAY not as awesome, but it was fun building an "A4" on my own...

Because I assume you all know the original (if not, see above for link), let me begin.

 

The most important aspect of this case is it's minimal size (this is also the case for the original :D)

I've took the original design size of 318x200x114mm and scaled it down to 1/3 the size.

Length: 106mm

Height: 66mm

Width: 37mm (this is not exactly 1/3, but roughly)

-> Volume: 0.26L

Wall thickness: 3mm ; side panels: 1.5mm

(double as the original :( but it's necessary because we are dealing with cheap plastic here, no nice aluminium, sorry)

It's just barely possible to sqeeze an Arduino Due with its 102mm in there...

Uses a push pin technology like the original

 

Hardware possible:

Most standard size Arduino boards like Uno, Due, Mega or Diciemiela (but designed for the Arduino Due specifically!)

Three I/O cables represent the USB port on the original

 

Then I used SketchUp to create the basic case, including some main design points of the A4-SFX, the bends on the front side and the single USB and power button and the rear handles of the sidepanels.

 

Finally it was 3D printed it using my Repetier modded 3D printer. It is FAR from perfect, even though it is the second prototype, but I felt like sharing it with you.

 

Printing:

~45m 1.75mm ABS filament (body part, 2 sidepanels)

~6h printing time

(xyzprinting Da Vinci 1.0A w/ Repetier 0.92Mod)

The IO cutouts should fit all common Arduino boards.


Update 20.06: New side panel


The bent bottom right corner in the next picture is NOT intendet, it is a printer error. You can see however, the 3D layers of the A4-DUE kind of look like the (way more beautiful) brushed aluminium of the original A4-SFX.

All scratches and material faults are either because I cut it when removing the 3D printing support structure or from the printing process itself. They are not part of the design :D

This is a photo of the first prototype, with the side panel. However, the push pins broke, because they were printed too thin and long (my fault :/) It should give you an idea about the design of the side panel.

Moreover, here is a quick sketchup screenshot... (on the first sidepanel you can see old long vs. new short pins)
